You might notice that not too much is updated.
Well, thats becouse my maps are actually never meant to update in the first place.
So this means I check my maps through and through before release.
The main reason for this is that i dont want like a 100 different versions all over the place of one and the same map.
Just like what happend with the titanic map.
This time I did well becouse there wasn't much to update.
And oh well, its a small map too.
But it always seems after the release I discover some tinny bug(s) that are annoying me, or obstructing the gameplay.
Perfect it can never be, due to limitations and other bullshit. I'm human too!
But near perfect is the closest thing you might call it.
General info:
This map is to get the best out of both worlds.
3D firstperson games and the boardgame:"Chess".
This map is designed for 4 players an admin and visitors-spectators or waiting players.
And this map is designed for chessplay only.
it has 2 chessboards or so called Chess Play Arena's.
its good for 6 players, winners plays against the winners, but losers wait their turn so you can play with 3 per board.
there is also a chessclock pressent just to make it complete. (the third player could control it too)
you dont have to use it, but its there if you like.
How to play:
use the physgun and move the chesspieces.
dont worry, its not that fragile! you can walk through all the chesspieces.
and the chesspieces can move through eachother.
no unwanted collisions will occure.
all pieces you pickup, they will be holdup straight.
to make it easy on you with a fallen piece for instance.
if you "take" a piece, then dont pick it up. first aim on the piece you are about to "take".
then shoot it away with the physgun. it falls on the floor... oh no! its gone!

yes its realy gone!
then move your piece to the taken location.
if you deleted/taken the wrong piece? just spawn an other piece!
you can spawn very piece possible. (yes, also a pawn and a king)
only one chesspiece can be spawned at a time.
only after the spawned piece is used or moved you can spawn anotherone again. (in GMOD use the reset button for it)
this is to prevent mingebags from overflowing the server.
if you need a better overview of the game, then you can get upstairs and view the board from above from any side! (on the catwalk)
if you want a new game, then press the [resetboard] button.
all will be deleted and regenerated and the chessclock will be reseted too.
THE CONTROLROOM:
Admin/controlroom to control access through the map with special features.
the controlroom (admin room) has a code lock on the door.
dont worry, its open when the map starts.
from the inside the door can be locked, and that activates the code.
its still a 4 digit code with a 5 second interval.
the admin can deside to leave the control room locked. (wise if he knows the code)
but he can also unlock it before he leaves the controlroom. (not save, but instead you can put a password on the server itself to keep mingebags out)
how to get the code?
if you the join
http://www.ulteamate.nl forum, then i'll try to pm it to people of who i think that dont screw it up.
you need to be trustworthy. yes, that takes time.
OPTIONS OF CONTROLROOM:
reset all - means every possible thing will be reset to the starting map state, like you restart the map.
(chess clocks are reset, both chessboards are reseted, access to the physguns, doors open etc.)
strip weapons from all players - means all players will be stripped from their physgun, or cheaters there guns.
for whatever reason this might be neceserry.
like if you suspect people cheating and shooting with guns.
close the physgun storage - means it closes the physgun storage at the startpoint.
so no more people/players can get a physgun.
its to prevent incomming annoying players to wreck a game.
close/open arena doors - means that it opens or closes both the arena doors.
for whatever reason, if no one is inside anymore, then usualy nobody can get in.
with pressing that button the arena's are open again.
this can be used when players leave with the doors still locked.
OTHER INFO:
Chess is a mind thinking game. So a relaxed environment is required.
If you play chess in this map, you are no longer at home sitting at your computer.
Becouse there is more than just a chessboard with its pieces.
It has an environment around it based on a nice and quiet place.
See for yourself.
I tried hard enough to create that kind of spirit in it. (hope it does)
MODELS:
The chesspieces aren't models!
Those are brush entities called: func_physbox
I made all the chesspieces in hammer this way.
Its my design. I hope you like em.
Custom tree models i used in this map made by:
"gosukes Grünzeug Models" (juni 2005)
Downloaded from:
http://www.uni-weimar.de/~viehoefe/hl2________________________________________________________________
Known Bugs:
1. Some times you can see transclusent textures and sometimes models through other transclusent textures that are more close to you.
2. If a chess piece is just put down on a squar, then it might dangle a bit. when this happends it might collide with you or other chesspieces.
to prevent collision, wait a second till it stands still.
3. This map is not designed to play in with Gmod!
Spawning ChessPieces doesn't go the way it supposed to be like in HL2DM with Gmod!
The spawnbuttons dont reset in gmod! (Fixed - now you can reset the respawn buttons manualy with the new Reset button. (10sec interval))
All of those bugs are not my fault.
These are all Source Engine bugs!
So please, dont report these bugs, they are already taken care of, or could not be fixed/prevented by me.
I did the best I can to prevent all bugs.
Note: This map is not tested in other mods other than Gmod. however its not meant to play Chess with it in Gmod! (G-mod compatibilliy is only added for comic making needs)
Gmod is just too powerfull, and mingebag control is lost. thats why.

To install, just put the bsp file here:
"[drive]:\... ...\[username]\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps"
To view/play the map, type in console:
"map hl2dm_chessmatcharena_se"
you can of course put the HL2DM_ChessMatchArena_SE.bsp file in the Gmod\maps folder in case you want to use the map in Gmod for making comics.
Note: This map is not designed for Gmod.
However I added Gmod tools in the contolroom for making ragdoll poses for comics only.
