Post subject:  ATI Radeon 9550

ok a few weeks ago i was looking for a video card and i saw in fry's electronics a ATI Radeon 9550 for 74.99, i looked on my elder scrolls oblivion box and F.E.A.R and the video card was supported for both. I went to get it and tried to get it installed at best buy. i thought the installation would only be 39.99 but i had to buy a warenty and cleaning and it totaled at 119 dollars. i thought that was a waste of my money but i was wrong. I started to play the top games such as Half Life 2 and F.E.A.R without any lag and good proformances. I played Half Life 2 Lost Coast and it looked pretty damned good. If you are a extreme gamer and on a budget ATI Radeon 9550 is the way to go

did you actualy pay for only installing a video card?
its super simple to do it yourself.
and the cleaning shit etc. you paid extra for. is bullshit.
you've bin screwed man!
my suggestion, don't ever do bussiness with these people again.
only if you just buy a product.
then you are fully in control of the total price.
119 dollars for just that is bullshit!

ATI 9550 is perhaps good, but... there's better, like my X700 :p
I just wanted to say something important : Be careful : the final name is important.
You can have XT, SE, Pro, etc.
It show how the GPU is ok. When they create a GPU, they test it, and give the name, wich show how many % is ok
A pro is around 30-40%
A SE is around 50-75%
A XT is around 95-98%
A XT platinum is 100%
You can also have a X850Pro which is worth than a 9800XT, or something so.
Don't forget I'm french and I'm not very good in english.... You can also help if you correct this post :p

It would be extremly dumb to buy 6800GT these days. Best buy would be one of the Geforce 7-series cards if you truely want graphic power (for Vista, newer games etc.) Not sure about ATI cards, but I still prefer Nvidia.

NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GS. Awesome graphics card, it can play Garry's Mod with all settings on high (average 47fps on a server full of props)!

that sounds nice, is a GS faster than a GT?
i keep wondering about the numbering in the future, now the 9800gtx is available, what is next?
the nVidia Geforce 10600GT???
also the thing that will never be answered, the next gfx card after the voodoo5 6000 if and when its ever released...
because the numbering was as followed: voodoo3 3000, 3500 - voodoo4 4200, 4500, voodoo5 5000(canceled), 5500
it seems 3dfx was never to be planned to release the voodoo5 6000, while they cancled the 5000 because it was too slow (has single chip like the voodoo4)
this means they could never release a voodoo6 6000, then maybe for whatever reason like the voodoo4, the would release a voodoo6 6200, but who knows, it will never be answered! damn, 3Dfx come back!

by the way, nice avatar you have there. you must be a mapper, no?

GS is lower than gt I think...
And after 9x00 they'll certainly release some X1000 like ATI lol

I have a NVIDIA Quadro Fx 360M in my mobile computer.... Perfect for modelling (after all it's my work) and not so bad for games wich allowed openGL GCards :(

:P is there a way to put laptop gfx technology into sli? :P (with 2 laptops and a cable pherhaps?) :P

2 laptops and a cable? forget it : too slow.
(optical cable could be fast enough, but lol...)
If you really want more power, try those "usb external graphic cards", but I don't think it's really meant for gaming :p
...
Or just buy a Alienware laptop. :D

that was just a joke, but how could you consider a usb 2.0 480MBit/s connection to be faster than a PCI-E slot with a bandwith of 8GByte/s?
this means that the pci-e slot bandwith is 13653,344% faster than a single usb 2.0 interface!
so why o why do you recommend an external usb device rather than an onboard solution on a laptop?

I wasn't serious. I know that usb Cards are... slow, but when I heard about it I always laugh :D
