Post subject:  Downloading maps problem

Hi

i have tried to download some of the rp and dm amsterville maps to use and play on my server, but the maps do not seem to want to be played on, and do not respond when i try to play them. What problem do I have here; do I need to unzip them with a differnt file, or is it something in game that is the problem?

Thanks

Josh

could you please tell me what you do to try to make them work?
unzipping a zip file is pretty much done when you just did that.
you have to use the .bsp file.
and are you familair with running maps on a server?

Basically I have downloaded them from this site, and then transferred the map files to both my hl2dm maps an my srcds maps folder. RP_amsterville seems to be working for me, but DM_amsterville will not let anyon else load due to a 'missing maps' error.

Also, in RP_amsterville, when yu have left the initial admin meet and greet room, other than telport is thee any way to get back to that place?

THanks for your time

Josh

Well, if you have a fast download URL enabled in your server.cfg make sure to have the DM_Amsterville map bzipped and uploaded to your website, if its not on the website it will give ppl a missing map message. If the server is givin you the missing map message in console when u try to change the level, its because the map is not in the srcds hl2mp maps directory. The last thing i could say, is make sure that sv_allowdownload is set to 1, and sv_allowupload is set to 1 in your server.cfg so ppl can download it from your server.

Thiers a payphone in front of the gas station / houses or hotel. that will teleport you back to the admin center, just press E on it.

1) Thanks for the info on the payphone.

2) What do you mean by uploading the map to my website? If I do not have a website, what should I do?

it does not have to be a website, just webspace.
to give the file a remote host, rather than just running it from a local computer would not be wise. (if possible at all)
when uploaded, you use the url of the remote location of the bzipped version of the map, and speedy downloading should work.
but i myself never did that kind of stuff before, so i'm not totally sure.

Thanks for your help regarding this. At the moment I am only running the server from home, which is very problematic, but hopefully funds will soon be allocated to be able to host it on a proper game server.

Finally... any other hints about finding the rp_amsterville admin code. (any specific locations :P) just to i can keep the room locked when i am not there.

Thanks very much for your help

Josh

I have managed to find the one is shop area and the number in the corner of the waterfront, but no luck as yet on the others.

Any last extra details? (Like a more specific underwater area in the waterfront, and a definition on **** in the post above?)

Thanks for your help
